Landleren

Landleren is an interactive educational tool designed to help fifth graders master the countries and flags of the European Union. As part of a project during my second semester at Thomas More University of Applied Science, I worked with a team to create a platform that would make learning geography fun and engaging. Our goal was to transform what could feel like a dull task into an exciting and interactive experience, where children could explore the EU through various activities that felt more like a game than traditional homework.

My role in the project focused on designing the website’s index page and the option menu, where students could choose which activity they wanted to engage with. I drew inspiration from video games to ensure the interface was dynamic, intuitive, and visually appealing. In addition to the design, I was responsible for developing the quizzes that tested students’ knowledge, ensuring they were both fun and challenging. I also contributed to the images used throughout the platform, enhancing the interactive experience for the students.

One of the most exciting features of Landleren was its integration of AI technology, which allowed students to use their webcams to identify country flags. This immersive tool provided a hands-on experience, enabling children to actively engage with the content rather than simply observing it. By making learning more interactive, we aimed to hold the students' attention and make geography feel like an exciting adventure rather than a task.

After completing the project, we introduced Landleren to a local school, where it was enthusiastically received. Teachers were excited to incorporate it into their curriculum, recognizing its potential to enhance the learning of country flags while accommodating each student’s pace. Although we had limited time for development, the feedback we received reassured us that we had created a tool that could have a positive impact on students' learning experiences.

Looking ahead, there is much potential for future updates to Landleren. We are considering expanding the platform with a mobile version and adding more features, such as fun facts about each country, to further enrich the learning experience. Overall, I’m proud of the work we accomplished and excited about the impact this tool could have in the future.
